Porsche AG is taking a pioneering step in the electrification of its luxury car range. The iconic sports car brand has announced plans to produce an all-electric version of its popular Cayenne model at Volkswagen Slovakia’s multi-brand facility in the city of Bratislava.
Eco-driving
The brand is taking the lead in electric technology, powering its entire SUV range with all-electric powertrains. The Taycan (2019) and Macan (2024), as well as the 718 by mid-decade, are ready for electrification. They are followed by an all-electric Porsche Cayenne, plus another model due out of its Leipzig plant by 2025.
Albrecht Reimold is immensely familiar with the capabilities of Porsche AG’s multi-brand plant in Bratislava. Having been President and Chief Technology Officer of Volkswagen Slovakia (from 2012 to 2016), he has seen first-hand his achievements, evidenced by winning awards. Now that production of the new generation of the 100% electric Cayenne SUV will soon begin, Reimold is confident that quality will remain at Porsche’s level when the time comes to launch.
Porsche Cayenne: 20 years of success
For more than two decades, the Porsche Cayenne has been a sought-after model. Last year alone, 95,604 units were delivered! Which shows that its success is still as strong today as when it was first launched in 2002. Although at first only painted bodies of this sporty SUV were sent to Leipzig from Bratislava, with the launch of the third generation production was completely moved there. Since then, versions with combustion engines and plug-in hybrids have been manufactured.
Porsche is determined to ensure that its latest iteration of the beloved Cayenne SUV exceeds all expectations. In an effort to surpass the 2017 launch and deliver a truly unique model, they are investing heavily in improving powertrain technology, refining chassis systems and creating sleek design elements that exude luxury coupled with efficiency.
The Weissach team has been busy fine-tuning every detail, from off-road performance capabilities to long-distance comfort for drivers who appreciate both comfort and craftsmanship quality. All without sacrificing the iconic on-road handling characteristics distinctive of this esteemed brand. We can’t wait for the fourth generation of the Prosche Cayenne!
