The Nissan Skyline is a model with a long history and a great reputation in the world of motorsport. The Skyline was born in 1957 as a luxury sedan, but became an icon of sports cars thanks to its GT-R versions, which dominated touring car and endurance competitions in Japan and the world. The Skyline GT-R became famous for its RB26DETT engine, a twin-turbo in-line six-cylinder that could exceed 500 hp of power. The Skyline GT-R was discontinued in 2002, but the Skyline name lived on as a high-end sedan.
The Nissan Skyline Nismo is the sportiest and most exclusive version of the current Skyline , which is based on the Infiniti Q50 that was sold in Europe until 2020. The Skyline Nismo has a 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine that delivers 420 hp of power and 550 Nm of maximum torque, the same that equips the new Nissan Z Nismo, another sports car of the Japanese brand. It features a nine-speed automatic gearbox and three driving modes: Standard, Sport and Sport+, which adjust engine, transmission and suspension response. According to Nissan, the Skyline Nismo can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.
As for its design, it is distinguished by its aerodynamic package, which includes more aggressive bumpers, a larger front grille, red side skirts and a discreet rear spoiler. It also has 19-inch Enkei alloy wheels in black, mirrors in piano black and brake calipers in red with the Nismo2 logo. The body color is a metallic gray called Stealth Gray, which gives it a sober and elegant look.
The interior maintains the basic lines of the normal Skyline, but adds some details that enhance its sportiness. Highlights include the Recaro sports seats with suede upholstery, the leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching, the instrumentation with specific indicators and a double central screen that allows you to control navigation, entertainment and driving functions. It also incorporates ProPilot Assist 2.0, which offers semi-autonomous driving on highways through adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistant.
The Nissan Skyline Nismo is a car that will only be manufactured in a limited series of 1,000 units, of which 100 will be a special edition that pays homage to the classic S54A-1 Skyline GT of 1964. This version adds matt bronze wheels, a plate with the unit number and a special logo, and a plaque on the engine with the name of the operator who built it. In addition, this car will only be sold in Japan, so European fans will have to settle for admiring it from a distance. Undoubtedly, it is a car that shows that Nissan continues to bet on sports sedans, even if it is in distant markets. It’s a pity that we can’t enjoy it around here, because I’m sure it would give a lot of war to its European rivals.
